Kate MacDowell has been performing her original work since 1996, when she released an extended play album, entitled Baby Blue. Since that time she has gone on to record three full-length albums, with her most recent work written entirely for an orchestra. She has performed throughout the Eastern US seaboard at both small and large venues and her music has been distributed worldwide. Her work has been described as having "depth, originality, intimacy, and beauty" (Lucy Simon). My Name is...

was released in 1997, as a collection of semi-autobiographical "story" songs coupled with a number of socially conscious songs, exploring issues of childhood abuse and racism.

was released in 1998 returning to the theme of song as autobiography, as well as the song as "witness" and "voice" to traumatic moments in the lives of others known.
